The George R. Blaha ’57 Family to accept 2016 Magis Award

George ’57 and Terese Blaha and their children, Karen, George V. ’82, Jane, Anne and Ellen, are the recipients of the 2016 Magis Award. The award honors extraordinary individuals who illustrate the meaning of magis, a Latin word meaning “more” or “beyond what is required.” This is a fitting description for a generous family with a long legacy of support for Saint Ignatius High School.

A man of great humility, George was very successful in the insurance profession and lived by the credo of “do unto others…” Never an extravagant spender, his friends joked, “Blaha, you still have your First Communion money!” George considered the Jesuits his favorite charity and the family provided generous support over the years, including a significant contribution to the Saint Ignatius High School Marian Mall built in memory of beloved Theology teachers Jim Skerl ’74 and Michael “Doc” Pennock ’64.

Join us at the 32nd Annual Saint Ignatius Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 4, when we will present The George R. Blaha ’57 Family with this year’s Magis Award. PURCHASE YOUR TICKETS today!
