Stroke of Genius

UPDATED 3/14/17: Senior Edward Kilarsky and junior Will Deucher are some of the nation’s best young artists. Both Wildcats won national medals in the 2017 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, which present prizes to less than 1 percent of student artists in the United States. Kilarsky’s “All Shapes and Sizes” earned him a gold medal and Deucher’s “West Side Catholic Center” garnered a silver.

In total, six Saint Ignatius students had their work recognized at the regional level. Kilarsky, Michael Daugenti ’17, Max Fisher ’18, Cal Miller ’17 and Seth Whitney ’17 also each had art recognized in the exhibition.

This is the 47th year of the competition, which is open to students from virtually all Ohio high schools. Per the exhibition’s website: “From the 11,500 regional entries from the 15 regions, approximately 2,500 are selected to enter the state judging. State jurors then select 300 for the actual exhibition.”

Deucher has added to his string of artistic achievements this school year, which included four Gold Keys, one Silver Key, and three Honorable Mentions in the regional judging for the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.

Congratulations to our Fine Arts department and these young artists on their tremendous accomplishments!
