Honoring the 2017 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees

On Saturday, May 6, we honored six alumni during the 2017 Alumni Awards Night. Among those honored were Jim Moroney ’71 (Founders’ Award), Dr. Neil Smith ’76 (Distinguished Alumnus), Mike Thaman ’82 (Distinguished Alumnus), Mark Buddie ’85 (Athletic Hall of Fame), Pete Fitzpatrick ’90 (Athletic Hall of Fame), and Ryan Franzinger ’02 (Athletic Hall of Fame).

Each honoree was recognized with a tribute video. Please enjoy Fitzpatrick’s video below and visit our YouTube Channel to watch them all at www.youtube.com/SIHSCleveland.

Though “smallish” in size, Peter made up for it with speed and determination. He was a two-year starter at tailback and three-year letter winner, rushing for back-to-back 1,000+ yard seasons in 1988 and 1989. As an all-state honoree in his senior year, he had nearly 1,200 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns, and at the time he graduated was the Saint Ignatius all-time leading rusher. He also earned three monograms in track as a sprinter and long jumper. Recruited by Yale, Princeton, Pennsylvania and Villanova, Peter chose Cornell University and played football all four years as a running back, earning All-Ivy League in his senior year and travelling to Japan with the Ivy League All-Stars.
